Hey

Besides reading the 29 pages of this stuff, this module is enough to cause a breakdown.

Everyone in my group I have been assigned to keep getting 20% for all the tool discussion assignments - its crazy.

Interesting to see what this assignment brings along.

If anyone doesnt have the reading material for this assignment, I attach it hereto.

Good luck

Hi. The information is on your digiband.
Place you digi band in. Click start, click learning units, click unit 3, under unit 3 click 3.3. , which says ICT4D applications in core sectors of development. The information u need to do the assignment will appear. Read through it.

GUYZ, HERE IS THE RESPONSE FROM THE OMBUDSMAN RE THIS WHATEVA MODULE EUP15 WHATEVA?...

As one of six signature modules designed by a team of local and international experts, EUP1501 is by far not just a skills course. It is therefore not possible to merely give students a practical exam to see whether they know Word, Excel etc., as these count for less than half of the content covered in the module.
As Module Leader, I do receive occasional updates as to the pace at which physical study material are being sent out to students - these materials consist of a so-called 'digiband' (a simulation 'backup' of the myUnisa environment for the module, so that students don't have to be online all the time to access their course materials) and a CD/DVD pack (containing most of the course materials available online via myITLab). However, sending out these materials to students is managed by a specific Despatch unit at Unisa, and I am not involved in the order in which materials are issued. However, please note that you are NOT dependent upon this material to work in this module, as all learning materials are available on your group site on myUnisa and myITLab.
The number of instructions that are specific to Office 2010 are really small relative to the overall total, and counts for less than 1% towards the final mark of students per assignment. Students also have access to Office 2010 at their local Unisa regional computer centre, in this case at Sunnyside.
Instructions with regard to course requirements are provided, and specifically those related to myITLab are easily accessible on their website. Students were also directed in Learning Unit 0, which serves as introduction to the module, to proceed to this site to get their computers ready for the module.
The myITLab environment was designed in the USA, but is used across the world, including by several other SA universities. The majority of the module content and contexts have further been specifically designed to speak to our (South) African and students' local contexts.
Admittedly, there had been a misunderstanding about the announcement that the student refers to, as it did go out to all participants of the so-called master site for the module.
If this student had read through Learning Unit 0, (s)he would have noticed that the assignments in this module contributes 80% to the final mark. The point that I was trying to get across was because there are 13 different assignments, each of them contributes a small amount to the final mark, and it is therefore not the end of the world if a student misses an assignment (or two) for whatever reason.

Thanks will do that..Did submit with independent research though.. Do you mind sending me your discussion just so I can see if I'm on the right track?
The grouping seems to limit our access to other students so just looking for a fresh perspective.

Do you get the info for Assignment 9 on the digiband as well?

Re:Eup1501 assignment 8 5 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 3
Example for assignment 8

1. Can ICTs be innovatively used in the absence of minimum literacy levels among the poor?

Yes it can, looking at the case study regarding the information lady in Bangladesh; she was able to visit households in the villagers with a set of ICT’s like: small portable laptops, digital cameras, mobile phones, GPRS internet connectivity, headphones, webcam and other light equipments such as weighing measurement machines, blood pressure machines, pregnancy tests and sugar tests kits etc. She listens to the villager’s livelihood problems and helps them with preloaded offline Bangla language livelihood, audio -visual content and online information from the web.

By using this initiative she is able to conquer the challenge of creating an infrastructure and the triple illiteracy of rural people (illiterate, ICT illiterate and information illiterate).

The handicap people, poor people are now offered a range of services at their doorstep and low cost solution.

The is a range of ICT’s and most may require basic level of education like your laptops etc and some without basic level of education may not be able to use them to the full potential but may be able to use it specifically for their need.

Take the information transmitted on radio’s, Television, using public address systems, fax that distributed by individuals, these methods can be used to communicate information regarding; Weather conditions for farmers and fisherman’s benefit, for farmers to get information regarding agricultural market practices, finance etc. and fisherman to be warned if it is safe or unsafe to sail, getting information regarding weather conditions. Two way radios can also be used. These can be achieved in the absence of minimum literacy levels.
2. How can the same ICTs be used for multiple purposes? What steps are needed to use, say the Internet for meeting the educational and health needs of poor female farmers in an isolated rural community?

ICT’s like radio, TV, Mobile phones, computers with internet, public address systems can be used for multiple purposes like – to address core sectors of development and provide access to information and knowledge, access to income generating opportunities, access to public service and agriculture, rural development and education.

Internet for meeting educational needs for poor female farmers in isolated rural communities

A female farmer with the use of the internet will be able to get information regarding agricultural market practices, finance etc and will be able to communicate and network with others worldwide.

In terms of education they will be able to continue studying using system called open learning system which provides formal education through distance learning methods to out of school youth , disadvantaged and poor communities who otherwise, for financial reasons not able to access education.

Internet for meeting Health needs for poor female farmers in isolated rural communities
This will be achieves through what we call e-Health which is an umbrella term that includes aspects of ICT use in health care like telemedicine. Telemedicine is the most frequent application in the health sector followed by continuing medical education and improving the quality or research network.
Women in a rural area can use the internet to get advice or consultant to provide over long distance via satellite. With telemedicine they will be able to connect to a specialist in the nearby area who will be able to capture and transmit clinical data from multiple sources to facilitate diagnosis and treatment.

Guys this module allows you to think laterally. I enjoyed it so much and got a distinction. I'm currently in my final year and that exposure have been very good to me so far.

Make it fun and trust me, you'll need those skills later. Make the best of it.

Good luck
