Bachelor of Laws (98680) Phasing Out? 1 Week, 1 Day ago Karma: 2
Hi All

Has anyone else noticed that this degree (LLB) is being phased out?

Can anybody shed some light on the process of applying for a new degree and do they automatically transfer your credits?

I am extremely worried and bothered that I have not received any correspondence regarding the degree being phased out.

The LLB (Bachelor of Laws) is not being phased out yet at Unisa (and most other institutions). There is a consideration of re-introducing the 2-degree requirement and/or extending the LLB to 5 years.

If you have started your LLB and complete it within the next 4 years, you should not be affected

Hi There

on registration we are indeed being given a warning that this degree is being phased out
some of us are still on the old LLB
so her concern is valid

the new LLB has new subjects and has cancelled a lot of old modules

Thanks for the info.

I still study modules for non-degree purposes and have noticed the change in curriculum and assumed such changes were to increase the level of the LLB in order to retain it. The Law Society issued a statement last year about the LLB which can be found at this link: www.lssa.org.za/upload/documents/LLB%20S...0PRESS%20RELEASE.pdf

It appears that the UNISA LLB will not be phased out as it has gained full accreditation from the CHE according to the following link:

the old LLB was phased out

that is why the new curriculum was in effect as of 2018.
