It appears there is a misreading of Rule 18.3 by either us students or administrators within UNISA.

17.3 A student will be granted a second assessment opportunity (supplementary examination) in a module if he or she achieves a minimum final summative assessment mark of 40%, as well as complying with the additional (where relevant) specific criteria for an aegrotat, deferred or supplementary assessment for the module. The university awards supplementary examinations. Students cannot apply for this opportunity.

My reading of Rule 18.3 is that this applies to granting of Supplementary Examination as oppose to FI Concession wherein a subminimum of 40% is required before a student can be considered for second assessment opportunity.

If I am misguided in this regard, it will be appreciated if I can be directed to the applicable rule that stipulates that a minimum of 40% must be obtained before a student can be considered for FI Concession at Post Graduate level.

Rule 18.7 only makes mention of 24 credits and does not talk of the 40% in terms of the Post Graduate qualifications insofar as FI Concession is concerned.

It is very frustrating as to why this rule is not shared, and transparent.

I engaged with my lecturer and she is also none wiser on the 40% requirement and deferred the matter to the Examination Department.

Has anyone received their FI Concession for the Post Graduate studies emanating from the Jan/Feb 2018 exam cycle?

I have been engaging my SCH4801 Lecturer on the matter but she is not helpful as she is referring me to the unresponsive exam department.

Lecturer just told me I'm not on the list for FIN4801 concession. I've sent the exam department and email but no response anyone else has news?

So I finally obtained a response from UNISA with an extract that reads "3.4.3 The student must have sat for and failed the examination in the credit-bearing module(s) during the last examination session and must have obtained a mark of at least 40%."

In a nutshell at Postgraduate level, the FI Concession is not easy to obtain as it is akin to a Supplementary Exam requirement.

I did receive mine yesterday after two day of constant phone calls to the exam department. If you got 40% and they haven’t contacted you...please call this guy “012 4296820 Makola” very helpfully and effective. With my case the issue was that the system couldn’t identify me because my credit weight wasn’t loaded during registration but he fixed it within day and got back to me that everything was sorted
Other people you can still contact in exam department -012 4296699 Zakhele, 012 4296090-Mary,012 4292831-Prinsloo but it’s not once of call ...you have to keep calling...
